Christmas and family seem to go together. After two Christmases away from family as missionaries in Ghana (which we enjoyed)we enjoyed having family around for the holidays. We also enjoyed the cookie and candy making and the huge variety of foods available (last year a small turkey that looked dried out cost nearly $100 so no one bought one - and the same for the ham - none looked very good). It was overwhelming to see all the stores with their shelves filled overflowing with merchandise and we didn't care about gifts - just being with those we love was gift enough!
Early afternoon on the 24th Rebecca's family joined with Jaden and Joe who were staying with us to make our traditional gingerbread houses. It was fun to see the kids - and Rebecca and David- decorate the houses. They always smell so good besides looking so festive. We had hoped Sam & Melissa would be here for the house making but they were stuck in the Seattle area.
We had all the family in town over for Christmas eve dinner of turkey and fixings. Afterwards David read the nativity story and the children wore costumes for our "pageant." It was a lovely time to be together.
We were able to see family members several other times during the holiday including a New Years' Eve game party at Beth and Jared's home.
